What funding actually is

Funding is the hourly transfer between longs and shorts that pins the perp price to the oracle price. A positive print means longs pay shorts; negative means shorts pay longs. Your open position settles it automatically every hour, in USDC, whether you check it or not — a coin held all year produces ~8,760 funding events.

Why the sum matters more than any print

A single print is noise; the cumulative rate over your holding window is real cost or real income. A 1x position's funding P&L over a window is exactly the sum of the prints — the 'cumulative' figure above is that number as a percent of notional, before leverage.

Every print is a record

On the tax side, each hourly funding payment is its own event — received or paid — inside your realized number. They never appear as fills, which is why a tool that only reads trades shows $0 funding on an account that settled thousands of them. The recomputed record includes every one.

Your own funding, every hour of every year

The free check recomputes your address's entire funding stream — every hourly print on every coin, netted to the dollar — and reconciles it against the venue's own series.
